Overnight stays of foreign tourists is increasing everywhere in Iceland

Overnight stays of foreign tourists in the year-round hotels increased throughout the country in the first four months of the year compared to the same period last year.

The increase in overnight stays varied considerably across regions in the first months of the year.

The increase was lowest in the most remote areas from the metropolitan area; North Iceland, East Iceland, West Iceland and the West fjords.

The increase in overnight stays was the least in the eastern part of Iceland, over 13% but almost 23% in the north.

The increase was considerably higher in western and western fjords or almost 31%. This trend is partly explained by the fact that the length of travel has been shortened in recent months in Iceland, as well as the strengthening of the króna, which has increased the cost of travel.

Reykjanes as seen the biggest increase of al sectors a whopping 89% and the South enormous 63%
