Now it is clear that the classic cinema Draken in Gothenburg becomes part of the award-winning hotel chain Clarion Hotel. The 33 storey building will accommodate 453 hotel rooms from which you have a great view of the city and the harbor entrance. The jewel of the hotel becomes the conserved and iconic cinema Draken.
Göteborg gets another hotel. This time it is Gothenburg’s pride of cinema Draken which becomes the center of the new hotel.
“Gothenburg has a special place in my heart and the Nordic Choice Hotels heart and I know that Draken has a very special place in Gothenburg’s hearts. In other words, it is too much love and passion when the new hotel is now being built. This is a dream project for me and I’m ready to take the first step, “says Nordic Choice Hotels founder Petter A Stordalen.
The new hotel is the result of the Nordic Choice Hotels, Balder’s and Folkets Hus Göteborg’s shared will and ambition to preserve the Dragon, but to develop the property and provide more meeting and logic capacity to Gothenburg.
– The People’s House in Gothenburg is a center for meetings, entertainment and culture. Now we take the next step to create a full-time meeting and entertainment culture using Balder and Nordic Choice Hotels, says People’s House Gothenburg CEO Lina Lindquist.
The hotel is being built in an area that will undergo a solid transformation over the next few years.
1,200 homes are being built, 5,000-6,000 jobs are added. Almost half of the newly built areas will consist of premises for shops, restaurants, offices, local businesses and culture. The hotel will be an important part of the area. The existing building will be complemented by a new house body. For all parties in the project it has been important to keep the classic cinema saloon Draken but to combine the style of the 50’s with the present.
“It is very beneficial to join the People’s House and Nordic Choice Hotels to be part of the realization of this fine project. I think that the project will be a part of a larger plan for the area, both for those living and working in the area, but also for the city as a whole, “says Erik Selin, CEO of Balder.
The 453 room hotel is being built in 2019 and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2022. The first thing that will meet guests is a large inviting lobby plan with the ambition to become the Gothenburg living room. On the floor you will also find part 1 of the hotel’s restaurant business. At floor 33 there is a continuation where guests can enjoy both food and city views as well as a rooftop terrace. In the immediate vicinity of the restaurant on floor 33, parties and events will be arranged on floor 32, which will be a truly unique party floor.
Conference facilities will be in a class by itself when you find the hotel’s meeting and event facilities at the heart of the Draken theater. The hotel’s gym and wellness area will also differ from the crowd. From the treadmills and the dumbbells, the guests have the opportunity to do the Instagram’s workout with the Gothenburg port in the background.
– This hotel will be one of my crown jewels. Something I’ll be craving for and something that will make my heart be a little extra. Then I love the place where the dragon is located. It is classical land and with the planned cableway with wall-to-wall docking with the property, this is Gothenburg’s new epicenter for power and creativity. This will be amazing, concludes Stordalen.
